9/18 and 9/19

English I and II: We will be convening class in the library to take our official lexile test. When students are done with the test, they will have the opportunity to check out 1-2 books, which they should be taking home and reading every night. With extra time they will be doing writing centers to help them prepare for the final draft of their text. Reading I: We will spend the first half of class checking out books and then we’ll go back to the classroom to focus on illiteracy and letter writing in our reading and writing time.

Homework: Read their book! They need to have a book done soon for their 20 points of Reading Counts credit.

Sept. 10 and 11

English 1 + 2 = Characterization a Character inference Challenge and our first Lit. Circle with work due in class (questions and responses)

Reading 1 = Actively Read, Inference Practice, You Can Read Anything, and We will be writing in our journal for our class grade.

Reading 9/3/13

Welcome to week 2!

Today we’re going to read the first four chapters of Holes. We’re going to work on establishing active reading habits with the use of the Reporter’s Formula (see the chart we’re using here: Reporter’s Formula). This will be turned in for a daily reading grade. We will finish the period with writing practice using the reporter’s formula to help us outline before we write.

Flipwork: Students should come to the next class (Thursday, Sept. 5) with a vocabulary word written down to share with the class. The word can be one they found in another class, in an article, anywhere as long as it’s challenging.
